Climate in North Cyprus 04/07/2019




Cyprus is located on the latitude of 35 degrees, which has the same location with the southern coast of Crete Island. From the northern coast of island Cyprus to Turkey is just 65 kilometers and from the south coast of Cyprus is only 380 kilometers to Egypt. 

The climate in Cyprus is Mediterranean and the main characteristics of the weather in North Cyprus can be described as long dry summers and a short rainy, but warm, winter season. In North Cyprus we can say it has just two seasons: spring, which begins in December and ends in February, and summer, which begins in March and ends in November. Small and very short showers mostly start in late October until April. 

The warm Mediterranean Sea which is surrounding the island from all sides contributes equal annual temperature to the Island. In summer the breeze comes from the sea and makes the hot days cooler. In winter as the sea is still warm the wind brings the warm temperature and makes the winter temperature much warmer than in a continent land. These features make the climate of the coast of North Cyprus softer and give favorable effect to the people suffering from high blood pressure and pulmonary diseases. North Cyprus is the best place not only for a holiday but also for the treatment of health problems such as asthma, chronic bronchitis, and various forms of allergy. 

The number of sunny days in Cyprus during the year is 330. The average temperature in North Cyprus: 30 degrees Celsius in summer and winter +15 to +18 degrees Celsius. The sea temperature among the sea coast of North Cyprus in summer is usually kept at 28 degrees Celsius, and in winter it does not drop lower than 18 degrees Celsius. Humidity is kept at 40-60% all year round 

Spring is very pleasant in North Cyprus, eventhough the water in the Mediterranean Sea is still cold, but there are a lot of long, warm and sunny days, so you can start to enjoy bathing in the sun, because the daily temperature is always around 25 degrees Celsius. Showers are possible, but they are short and very rare. 

Summer on the coast of North Cyprus is quit hot, but the heat will not be as strong and tiresomely for you, because of the cool sea breeze from the Mediterranean Sea. To have a rest from the hot days are also possible during the long summer evenings which are pleasant and very comfortable for going out. The coolest place during the day can be found in the mountains of the pine forest. 

Autumn begins in late October, but swimming season ends in late November . However, some enthusiasts can swim all year round. In November the short rains start to begin more often and that bring coolness to the island. 

Winter is very mild. The temperature does not drop below 15 degrees Celsius, all winters days are mostly sunny. At that time, the island is covered with many flowers, and the emerald-green carpet of mountain slopes in North Cyprus start to amaze everyone with their unique beauty.
