Morphou (Güzelyurt) is the orange capital of Cyprus, because the main citrus plantations are located there. The imaginary city walls are made from the groves of lemons, oranges, tangerines, grapefruit which are surrounding the whole city. Morphou is famous with its Oranges festivals, which takes the place in the time of cropping the fruits in June.
The city is different from the other cities of North Cyprus such as the dynamic Kyrenia (centre of tourism) and Nicosia (the business centre) by its slow style of life. Morphou (Güzelyürt) is the quiet and provincial town, where changes over the past 35 years were just a minimal, except the increased numbers of cars.
In the centre of town is located the St. Mamas Church and Monastery. Next to this building is a local museum, on the first floor in which are the exhibitions of flora and fauna of North Cyprus, and the second floor as the archaeological museum where is the samples of ancient pottery, fragments of sculptures and ancient instruments.
Not far away from the city in the Lefke village is located Lefke European University, which attracting the students from many countries and benefit them with a quality of European education.
In Lefke in the ruins of ancient city Soli are surviving the famous unique mosaics. The most well known image of these mosaics is a swan. The observation point which is located in the antique Vouni Palace ruins are opening the fantastic view of the Mediterranean Sea and surrounding area.
